Al concorso indetto cinque anni dopo la scomparsa di Maria Teresa d’Asburgo (1816-1867) partecipano gli scultori più in vista della capitale; da Karl Kundmann a Kaspar Clemens von Zumbusch (1830-1915) che ha la meglio con un bozzetto di spiccata teatralità. L’imponente macchina celebrativa è infatti organizzata su quattro ordini visivi: ogni lato presenta il ritratto a figura intera dei più efficaci consiglieri di corte mentre alle loro spalle a mediorilievo se ne rammentano le gesta; gli angoli sono chiusi da quattro cavalieri e su tutto troneggia - idealizzata -l’imperatrice.
The most important Vienne sculptors has taken part to the concourse called five years after the death of Maria Teresa d’Asburgo (1816-1867); from Karl Kundmann to Kaspar Clemens von Zumbusch (1830-1915) who gained by a model presenting a strong theatrality. The overshadowing celebrative machine has been in fact organized on four visual plane: each side presents the entire portrait of the most incisive court’s advisors while at their back a relief tells their deeds; the corners have closed by four knights and the top has dominated by the idealized figure of the empress.
