Un tempo collocato di fronte all’Albertina e poi sistemato all’entrata del parco dell’Hofburg il monumento a Mozart (1756-1791) è opera precoce di Viktor Tilgner (1844-1896), noto per la sua capacità ritrattistica. Purtroppo il ritratto a figura intera del grande genio austriaco è troppo distante per coglierne i tratti del volto; mentre la doratura del fogliame, la modellatura dei putti e l’avvilupparsi del mantello rivelano l’adesione dello scultore alla corrente neobarocca, epoca del resto coeva alla musica di Mozart.
Nella grande formella sottostante Tilgner “mette in scena” a bassorilievo i momenti più salienti del Don Giovanni.
The Mozart’s monument was in origin in front of the Albertina and recently it has been placed at the entrance of the Hofburgpark. It’s a early work by Viktor Tilgner (1844-1896), a sculptor well known for his ability at the portrait. Unfortunately Mozart, realized in entire figure, is too far to reveal the face’s details; meanwhile the plating foliage, the little angels and the enveloping of the mantel reveal the neo-baroque proclivity of the author, that is also coherent with the age of the Austrian genius.
In the great “formella” Tilgner shows the highlightest moments of the “Don Giovanni”.
