Il modello dello Strauss fa spesso capolino nelle foto storiche dell’atelier di Hellmer (1850-1935) e prova come quest’opera abbia impegnato a lungo lo scultore.
Il monumento ritrae il compositore a figura intera intento a suonare il violino dando vita a un arco di figure che si susseguono estasiate dalla sua musica e che per sensualità tengono conto del passaggio di Rodin a Vienna. Inaugurato in un Austria in pieno conflitto, il monumento appare come un manifesto della scultura neobarocca, evidente nella doratura dello Strauss in forte contrasto con l’abbagliante marmo dell’intorno.
The Strauss plaster often appears in the historic photos of the Hellmer’s atelier, proving as this work has been thought for a long time by the sculptor.
The monument present the composer in entire figure while he’s playing the violin and his music is creating an arch figures in a rapturous state due to the music. They are so sensual that it’s clear that the model is Rodin that has left his sign in Vienna in 1902. The monument was unveiled in Austria during the war, and it’s a good example of the neo-baroque sculpture, clear in the plating Strauss in evident contrast with the dazzling white of the marble.
