Allievo di Ercole Villa all’Istituto di Belle Arti di Vercelli, Francesco Porzio (1855-1934) si aggiudica il concorso per il monumento a Garibaldi sei anni dopo aver perduto per un soffio l’incarico per quello di Udine (1884). Con sguardo fiero e presa salda sull’elsa della spada - in bronzo come l’aquila che ne sta svelando il nome – Garibaldi scruta l’orizzonte. Lo scultore eccede forse in manierismo nell’increspare la divisa e il mantello dell’eroe.
Ercole Villa’s pupil at the Institute of Belle Arti in Vercelli, Francesco Porzio (1855-1934) gained the concourse for the Garibaldi’s monument after six years than he lost by a hair the one in Udine (1884). With pride sight and strong grasp on the hilt of the sword - in bronze as the eagle that is unveiling his name – Garibaldi is looking to the horizon. The sculptor exceeds just a bit in the crease of the uniform and the mantel.
