Inciso sul basamento, “Cesare Laurenti / Giovanni Vianello fuse”
Un pescatore - tema ricorrente nella scultura italiana sin dagli anni settanta dell’Ottocento dopo il successo di Gemito e ripreso spesso anche nell’iconografia cimiteriale delle località di mare – è collocato da Cesare Laurenti (1854-1936) a chiusura dell’angolo verso il Canal Grande del suo progetto per la Pescheria (1908). Benché lo fermi nell’istante del lancio delle reti, Laurenti risparmia al suo pescatore ogni spasimo, ogni rimando alla fatica fisica, preferendo invece una modellazione totalmente idealizzata.
A fisherman – subject quite usual in the Italian sculpture since ‘70’s after the Gemito’s success, it’s also a common iconography present in a lot of cemeteries near the sea – has been settled by Cesare Laurenti (1854-1936) on the edge of his project (The Pescheria, 1908) in front of Canal Grande. Though Laurenti catches him in the moment of the throwing of the nets, he spares his fisherman every spasms, every sign of physical fatigue, he prefers an idealized modelling.
