Inaugurata l’8 maggio 1928, la
grande allegoria del volo celebra l’impresa di Charles Lindbergh - che per
primo sorvolò l’oceano - e al contempo ricorda anche i coraggiosi tentativi di
Charles Nungesser e François Coli che scomparve senza lasciare traccia. L’opera
si deve a Gustave Michel (1851-1924), uno dei più noti scultori d’inizio
secolo, che la risolve con formule legate al gusto Art Nouveau.
The big allegory of the flight, inaugurated on 8th May 1928, celebrates
the venture of Charles Lindbergh – who first crossed the Ocean by plane – and it
commemorates also the brave attempts by Charles Nungesser and François Coli who
disappeared in the challenge. The work is realized by Gustave Michel
(1851-1924), one of the most famous sculptor of the beginning of the XX
century, in a Art Nouveau style.
