Il monumento Sottroi mostra una figura di Dolore che sorregge un lembo dell’abito con la mano destra mentre porta la sinistra al volto in segno di rassegnata meditazione. L’intera scena si svolge all’ombra di un grande salice piangente come già è accaduto nel monumento Cavagnis (1912) di Annibale De Lotto. La lapide Sottroi si deve però a Emilio Gaggio che indubbiamente ripropone la soluzione del De Lotto accentuandone il rilievo. Lo scultore infatti insiste maggiormente sullo spessore del salice che con le sue fronde forma una vera cascata e sviluppa quasi tridimensionalmente la figura femminile.

The Sottroi monument shows a figure of the Pain which holds a strip of the dress with the right hand while the left one covers the face, in a sign of resigned meditation. The figure stands behind a large willow tree as it also before was in Cavagnis monument (1912), by Annibale De Lotto. The Sottroi gravestone, anyway, is without doubt made by Emilio Gaggio who presents again the De Lotto's solutions, but he deepens more the embossment. The sculptor insists much more on the thickness of the willow tree, creating a real cascade with the arms and developing an almost three-dimension figure.
