Ugo Bassi, padre barnabita, predicò incessantemente la necessità di allontanare gli austriaci dalla penisola. Così infatti lo rappresenta anche Parmeggiani, mentre arringa le folle, con la croce appuntata all’abito talare e il braccio teso ad indicare l’orizzonte. Il monumento venne originariamente collocato su un alto piedistallo a base ottagonale dove oggi si trova il grande Garibaldi a cavallo.
Ugo Bassi, barnabita father, preached unrelentingly the necessity to catch the Austrians from Italy. In this way in fact he has been presented by Parmeggiani, too, while he’s wagging the crowd, with the cross on the vest and the arm indicating the horizon. The monument had been in origin collocated on a high basement where now has settled the Garibaldi.
