S’intitola Empires la monumentale installazione con cui l’artista cinese, ma francese d’elezione, Huang Yong Ping ha invaso lo spazio vetrato del Grand Palais per l’edizione 2016 di Monumenta, metafora del grande sistema economico globale. Un lungo scheletro si snoda sostenuto da un sistema di container e su tutto, non senza ironia, troneggia il cappello di napoleone.

Empires is the title of the huge installation of the Chinese artist, based in France, Huang Yong Ping. He has invaded the Grand Palais for the 2016 Monumenta whit his great metaphor of the global economic system. A long skeleton winds in the space sustained by containers.

La mostra, profondamente Warburghiana, si apre con un rimando al Mnemosyne e continua in un percorso a scansione – senza didascalie fisse – nel quale la storia dell’arte cede il passo all’associazione visiva. Le opere si susseguono secondo un sistema di “buon vicinato” – per citare Aby Warburg – mettendo sullo stesso piano un dipinto di Bosch e una manufatto tribale.

The exhibition opens with a refer to the Warburg’s Mnemosyne and it goes on in a path based on visual associations, abandoning the idea of a history of art (even references are not fixed).

The works are presented on the same plane: a Bosch beside a tribal manufacture.
