Monumento a Ciro Menotti – Cesare Sighinolfi

Ciro Menotti (1798-1831) rivoluzionario e patriota partecipò alla liberazione del ducato di Modena dal gioco degli austriaci e con lui alcuni compagni ritratti di profilo sul basamento: Giuseppe Andreoli, Vincenzo Borelli, Giuseppe Ricci. Il monumento al giovane democratico è affidato a Cesare Sighinolfi (1833-1903) che dopo una prima formazione modenese con Luigi Mainoni si specializza a Firenze con Giovanni Duprè. Nel Menotti  emergono entrambi i maestri: il primo e neoclassico nella posata espressione del soggetto e nei ritratti del basamento, mentre la lezione naturalista di Duprè affiora nella scompostezza del fiocco e nell’accartocciarsi della bandiera tra le mani dell’eroe. Il bozzetto del Menotti è oggi conservato presso il Museo civico di Carpi (Mo).

The monument to the young democratic has been entrusted to Cesare Sighinolfi (1833-1903) who has a first formation in Modena with Luigi Mainoni and after he specialized himself in Florence with Giovanni Duprè and his “Menotti” shows both these influences: the Neoclassicism of his first master in the quite expression of the subject and on the profiles of the basement and on the contrary Duprè appears in the break up of the ribbon and in the shrivelling of the flat in the hero’s hand. The Menotti’s plaster is today conserved in the Carpi Museum (near Modena).
