Svelato il 1 luglio 1858 e accompagnato da un bel disegno nel libretto d’inaugurazione, il monumento ricorda lo scrittore e poeta milanese che con Manzoni sostenne il romanticismo meneghino. Il marmo è l’ennesima prova della libertà ritrattistica di Vela (1820-1891), scultore attento al vero e che presenta perciò un Porta (1790-1853) in una posa informale, appena appoggiato al basamento e con le gambe sovrapposte.
The monument to the Milan Romantic writer has been unveiled on 1 July 1858, while a beautiful drawing has been published on the inauguration book. The marble is another proof of the Vela’s artistic freedom, the sculptor, always awake to the true, has presented in fact Porta (1790-1853) in a very informal way, just leaned on the basement and with the overlapping legs.
