Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II – Ercole Villa

1887
bronzo
Vercelli, Piazza Pajetta

Villa was the executor of the monument to Vittorio Emanuele the Second in Vercelli which original project was by another Ercole... the Roman sculptor Ercole Rosa who impressed his imprint on the Asti’s one, too (see the post). The two monuments share in fact the same setting and the identical figure of the king but they differentiate themselves in the allegories that here in Vercelli are more theatrical: Italy sill in chain in 1849, than a Italy warrior against the invader and at the end the proud Nation after the Unity.
