L’omaggio a Strossmayer (1815-1905) campeggia di fronte all’Accademia delle Scienze e delle Arti, istituzione fondata proprio grazie al contributo del vescovo croato. L’imponente monumento si deve allo scultore nazionale per eccellenza, Ivan Meštrović (1883-1962), nel cui atelier-museo di Zagabria si conserva anche bronzetto del monumento (1924). Le forme massicce e pulite del vescovo abbinate alla nodosità delle mani appartengono alla fase matura dello scultore, formatosi prima a Vienna e poi a Parigi.
The homage to Strossmayer (1815-1905) dominates the garden in front of the Academy of Science and Art, an Institution that was realized also with the contribution of the Croatian bishop. The overshadowing monument has been realized by the national sculptor, Ivan Meštrović (1883-1962), in which atelier-museum in Zagreb it’s possible to admire the little bronze version of the monument (1924). The simple forms of the massive figure, matched with the growing hands, belong to the mature phase of the Meštrović’s career, started in Vienna and Paris.
