Crespi d’Adda
Scultore di fiducia della
famiglia Crespi, Amleto Cataldi riceve l’incarico di realizzare un monumento
che commemori la scomparsa dei 63 operai della Crespi caduti in guerra. Cataldi
rinuncia alla magnificazione dell’eroismo e mostra piuttosto la triste realtà
di operai costretti ad abbandonare la famiglia e il lavoro per inforcare il
fucile, senza alcuna preparazione militare.

Amleto Cataldi was already known at Crespi family when they entrusted
him the monument to the workers – 63 – died in the I war. Cataldi abandoned the
rhetoric iconography of heroism for a more sincere description of the reality: a
simple worker forced to leave his family and to grab the rifle without any military
training.
