Animatore della Kunstlerhaus ed assiduo frequentatore del cafe Zum Blauen Freihaus in Gumpendorferstrasse, Arthur Strasser (1854-1927) vince il premio per la scultura all’annuale mostra viennese nella primavera del 1896 – la stessa in cui Segantini sia aggiudica il premio per la pittura – con il Marcantonio che viene in seguito tradotto in bronzo e collocato accanto al palazzo della Secessione. Da notare la cultura antiquaria austriaca, filtrata da un colorito storicismo, che tocca il vertice nella decorazione in stile antico della biga; il romanticismo è invece ancora evidente nella ostentata ferocia delle fiere – per altro ben modellate – e nell’inarrestabile decadenza con cui è presentato l’imperatore.
Arthur Strasser (1854-1927) was the promoter of the Kunstlerhaus and an usual goer of the cafe Zum Blauen Freihaus in the Gumpendorferstrasse, he gains the sculpture prize at the spring exhibition in Vienne in 1896 – when also Segantini wins prize for painting – with the Marcantonio that has been translated in bronze and placed beside the Secession palace. It’s to note the antique Austrian culture, filtered by Historicism, that arrives at the top in the antique style of the decoration of the chariot; the Romanticism has otherwise witnessed by the evident ferocity of the felines – good modelled! – and in the unstoppable decadence of the Imperator figure.
