Dopo tre anni di restauro riapre al pubblico l’Hotel Biron che per anni fu abitazione ed atelier di Auguste Rodin (1840-1917): in un allestimento molto consistente è possibile oggi ripercorrere l’evoluzione del gusto, della carriera, la passione collezionistica e l’elaborazione dei grandi progetti monumentali del protagonista della scultura europea a cavallo dei due secoli.

After three years of restoration the Hotel Biron, Auguste Rodin’s house and atelier, has reopened. With a very present display structure it allows to retrace the evolution of the taste, the career, the passion for collecting and the elaboration of the great decorative projects of the protagonist of the European sculpture in between two centuries.

Candida Höfer. Les Bourgeois de Calais à Venise

La mostra presenta una selezione di fotografia dalla serie Douze-Twelve che l’artista realizza nel 2001 su commissione del Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle di Calais e che dà conto delle 12 versioni in bronzo dei Borghesi di Calais distribuite nel mondo. Lo sguardo fotografico della Höfer si confronta - anche con esterni, rari per l’arista -  con un gruppo celeberrimo del quale il museo di Ca’ Pesaro conserva il gesso del 1901, acquistato dal Comune di Venezia alla Biennale di quello stesso anno.

The exhibition presents a selection of photos from the series Douze-Twelve, realized by Candida Höfer in 2001 for the Beaux-Arts and Dentelle Museum in Calais on the 12 bronze versions of the Calais Bourgeois in the world. The photographic sight of the artist – quite rare in external – looks at the famous group from whom the Ca’ Pesaro Museum conserves the 1901 plaster bought by city at the Biennale in the same year.

Come promesso dal titolo, la mostra offre uno spaccato sull’anno che ha aperto il XX secolo con la grandiosa Esposizione Universale di Parigi. Le prime sale sono dunque dedicate alla storia dell’evoluzione e della decorazione architettonica che ha contribuito e creare il mito della ville lumière, capitale della moda e della cultura. Una sala dà spazio anche alle opere d’arte presentate nel 1900, tra cui numerose sculture e una mostra personale di Rodin, da lui stesso allestita.

As promised in the title, the exhibition offers a flight on the 1900, the year that has opened the XX century by the magnificent Universal Exhibition of Paris. The first rooms are dedicated to the evolution and decoration of the architecture. In 1900 Paris became the ville lumière, the capital of fashion and culture. There’s also a room dedicated to the works presented in 1900, with some important sculptures and a personal show by Rodin, curated by the same artist.

Rodin. Il marmo, la vita

La mostra inauguratasi ieri tiene insieme 62 marmi di Rodin che “torna” così in Italia – e per la prima volta a Milano con una grande mostra -; paese che visitò per 15 volte a partire dal 1875. I lavori di restauro del Musée Rodin – partner nell’operazione – hanno reso possibili prestiti così numerosi e importanti come L’uomo dal naso rotto, il busto di Madame Roll, il Victor Hugo del 1833 e il Pierre Puvis de Chavannes del 1891… In un allestimento audace che può piacere o meno ma certamente segnerà la storia allestitiva delle mostre di scultura, viene raccontata l’evoluzione del linguaggio rodiniano dai busti neo-rococo ai non finiti che imprigionano i corpi nella materia. Graficamente splendido il catalogo!

The exhibition inaugurated yesterday, hold together 62 Rodin’s marbles: the sculptor “comes back” to Italy, the nation that he visited 15 times starting from 1875. The restoration of the Rodin Museum in Paris – partner of the operation – allowed important and numerous loans as L’uomo dal naso rotto, Madame Roll’s bust, the Victor Hugo (1833) and the Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (1891)… The exhibition has been organized in a brave setting that sure will scare the history of the sculpture shows. The catalogue is graphically gorgeous!

Balzac – Auguste Rodin

Nel 1891, su commissione della Société des Gens de Lettres, Rodin inizia a dar forma al monumento a Balzac: dapprima pensato in un’irriverente nudità, poi completamente ammantato, il modello venne esposto al Salon del 1898 dove suscitò grande scalpore, tanto da perdere l’incarico. Solo nel 1939, 22 anni dopo la scomparsa dello scultore, lo Stato francese decise di fondere l’ultima versione del Balzac e collocarla in boulevard Montparnasse.

In 1891, by the commission of the Société des Gens de Lettres, Rodin begins to model his Balzac’s monument: in a first moment he hypothesized an irreverent nude figure, then he decided to wrap him in a gown. He exposed it in 1898 at Paris salon where the critics were so hard to loose the assignment. Only in 1939, 22 years after the death of the sculptor, the monument has been casted in bronze and settled in boulevard Montparnasse.

Negli spazi dell’ex abbazia di Saint-Denis, oltre ad una versione del Marat di David che ha ispirato un bel romanzo di Daniele Del Giudice, il museo di Reims ospita una collezione che spazia dal XVI al XX secolo con incursioni nel contemporaneo: da Il Rifugio di L-E. Barrias all’Orfanella alsaziana di A. In the spaces of the ex Saint-Denis Abbey, beside a version of the David’s Marat  that was the inspiration for a successful novel by Daniele Del Giudice, the Museum conserves a collection that spreads from the XVIth to XXth century: from The Refuge by L-E. Barrias to the Young Alsatian Woman by A. Rodin to the Arab dancer by René de Saint-Marceaux; from the same sculptor the museum has also the entire project for the monument to the Postal Union in Berne.
