Commissionato nel 1854 e inaugurato
il 31 agosto del 1856, il monumento a Jean Rapp (1771-1821), originario di
Colmar, è una delle prime opere pubbliche di Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, che in
seguito avrebbe basato interamente la propria carriera su commissioni
monumentali. Il giovane ufficiale napoleonico è ritratto in marcia, in un gesto
di fierezza che ricorda quello più tardo de La
Tour d’Auvergne che Alfred-Ferdinand Le Dru presenta al Salon del 1900.
Entrusted on 1854 and inaugurated on August 31th, the monument to the
General Rapp (1771-1821), born in Colmar, is one of the first pubblic work of
Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (he was just 20), who will base his entire career on
public commission. The young Napoleon official has portrayed marching, in a pride
gesture that maybe could have influenced the Tour d’Auvergne by Alfred-Ferdinand Le Dru, presented at the Paris
Salon in1900.
