È forse l’opera più celebre di
Frémiet: comandata da Napoleone III nel 1874 divenne fin da subito una delle
icone della piazza, come mostra anche il celebre Place des Pyramides di De Nittis.
La devozione verso la
condottiera e l’accattivante formula neo-gotica della scultura di Frémiet
fecero lievitare la richiesta di repliche che oggi si trovano a Orleans (di
dimensioni ancora più monumentali), a Nancy, negli Stati Uniti e in Australia.
The monument to Joan of Arc is probably the most successful work by
Frémiet: it has been entrusted by Napoleon the third in 1874 and it became
immediately one of the icon of the place, as we see in the precious Place de Pyramides by De Nittis.
The devotion thought the holy warlady and the easy neo-gothic formula of
the Frémiet’s sculpture were the reasons of the many copies present in Orleans
(even more monumental in the size), in Nancy, in the U.S.A. and in Australia.
