Inaugurato il 22 settembre 1913 il monumento a Cavour – ritratto di profilo sul fianco sinistro - è in piena linea con le torsioni Liberty di Bistolfi ed è perciò paragonabile al ricordo di Giuseppe Zanardelli di Maderno, di poco precedente.

The monument to Cavour – portrayed on the left side – was inaugurated on the 22th September 1913 and it is in the line with the Liberty Bistolfi’s taste; it’s in fact similar to the Giuseppe Zanardelli’s monument in Maderno (Bs)  of some years before.

È austera e pacata l’immagine di Cavour che restituisce Enrico Chiaradia per la città di Padova nel 1888. L’anno successivo lo scultore friulano sarebbe diventato una celebrità nazionale aggiudicandosi il concorso per la statua equestre di Vittorio Emanuele II di Roma.
Il monumento patavino ha subito un evidente restauro nel 1993.

In Padua Enrico Chiaradia realized a placid and stern figure of Cavour (1888). The next year he should have been a star of the Italian sculpture thanks to the equestrian monument to Vittorio Emanuele II in Roma. The Padua bronze has been clearly restored in 1993.

Il gruppo è piuttosto articolato: su un massiccio piedistallo in granito campeggia il ritratto di Cavour (1810-1861); sotto le decorazioni in bronzo mostrano le Truppe di ritorno dalla Crimea, le allegorie del Dovere e del Diritto, il Genio della Rivoluzione e quello delle Province liberate che abbraccia la figura dell’Indipendenza.
L’iniziativa del monumento parte nel 1861, solo però nel 1865 l’incarico è affidato a Duprè (1871-1882) – artista di fama e garante dunque di un buon esito – che ne ritarda la consegna di due anni. La folla dell’inaugurazione è pari solo alle critiche che piovono sul paludamento del Cavour, sulla posa dell’Italia – troppo ancheggiata! – per un monumento tra i meno armonici del maestro toscano.

The group is quite hinged: on a massive granite basement stands the Cavour’s portrait (1810-1861); the under decorations show the Troop on return from Crimea battle, the allegories of the Duty and the Right, the Genius of the Revolution and that of the released Provinces who embraces the Indipendance.
The initiative starts in 1861, but only in 1865 the charge was attributed to Dupré (1871-1881) – at the moment a famous artist who should have guaranteed the good exit of the sculpture – he has delayed the consignment of two years. The crowd of the inauguration was equal only to the critics that the monument has received for the Cavour’s black gown and for the position of the Italy – too hipped!-.
