La scultura venne esposta in occasione del Festival Printemps de Septembre di Tolosa nel 2005 e acquisita l’anno seguente dalla città. Agorafobia è un nastro infinito, irregolare nella superfice e nel movimento: Franz West ha dato forma visiva ad uno stato psichico.

The sculpture has been presented at the Printemps de Septembre Festival in Toulouse in 2005 and, the year after, it has entered in the city collection. Agoraphobia is an infinite ribbon, irregular for shape and movement: Franz West has given visual form to a psychological state of mind.

Si è concluso ieri con Franz West (Vienna, 1947) il ciclo d’incontri promossi da Palazzo Grassi. West, che si forma all’Akademie der Bildenden Künste e muove i primi passi proprio in antitesi con il dilagante Azionismo viennese degli anni Sessanta, è stato introdotto prima di Carlos Basualdo e poi dall’amico e collega Andreas Reiter Raabe. Se il primo, con una simpatica inflessione spagnola, ha ricondotto la poetica di West alla sua intrinseca “stanchezza”, il secondo ha cercato di entrare nel merito del rapporto tra arte e filosofia, disciplina che affascina l’artista sin da giovane età. The cycle of conferences promoted by Palazzo Grassi has concluded yesterday with Franz West (Vienna, 1947). He first formed himself  in the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna but then he worked exactly against the spreading Azionismus of the ‘60s. Yesterday he has been introduced by Carlos Basualdo and then by his friend and colleague Andreas Reiter Raabe: if the first one, with a nice Spanish accent, has explained how the West’s poetics can be brought back to his own “tiredness”, the second one has entered in the matter of Philosophy, a subject that’s interesting the artist since he was young.
