Inaugurato il 15 settembre 1878 il monumento di Monza segue di un anno il marmo che lo stesso Crippa (1838-1895) svela a Roma nella Salita del Pincio. Per un altezza complessiva di 3,25 metri, il gruppo di Monza ritrae il monarca a figura intera, in abiti militari con la mano sinistra sull’elsa della spada e la destra che indica lo Statuto.
