Hayez

La bella mostra su Franceso Hayez oltre che mettere assieme le tre versioni del celebre Bacio e presentare alcuni importanti dipinti di collezione privata propone un proficuo scambio con la scultura coeva da Antonio Canova a Vincenzo Vela.

È affidato a Francesco Sapori l’introduzione del n.8 della collana “Maestri dell’Arte” che, nel febbraio del 1919, consacra definitivamente il nome di Vela tra i grandi maestri dell’Ottocento italiano.

It’s signed by Francesco Sapori the introduction to the n.8 of “Maestri dell’Arte”, a series of books that, in February 1919, definitely consecrated Vela’s name as one of the greatest sculptor of the Italian XIX century.

Spartaco – Vincenzo Vela

A ridosso del soggiorno romano Vincenzo Vela (1820-1891) dà forma al suo Spartaco, lo schiavo ribelle che ha i tratti dello scultore stesso e che all’Esposizione Universale di Parigi del 1855 ne esprime il forte sentimento patriottico. Il marmo, premiato a Parigi nel 1855, dal 1937 appartiene alla città di Lugano per lascito dalla Fondazione Goettfried Keller.

After a period in Rome, Vincenzo Vela (1820-1891) modelled his Spartacus, the rebel slave with his own feature. With a clear message of patriotisms he presented the Spartacus at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1855 where it gained a price. The marble belongs to Lugano from 1937 thanks to the donation by the Goettfried Keller Foundation.

Museo Vincenzo Vela

La dimora in cui Vincenzo Vela si stabilì all’apice della carriera, è uno dei più interessanti musei dell’Ottocento europeo: la collezione, composta da oltre 5000 pezzi, è formata in buona parte dalla gipsoteca dell’artista stesso, affiancata dai gessi animalier del fratello – Lorenzo Vela – e dai dipinti del figlio, Spartaco.

The villa where Vincenzo Vela established at the very peak of his career is now one of the most interesting XIX century European museum: the 5000 pieces collection has composed by the plaster cast gallery of the artist, then the animalier plaster of his brother Lorenzo Vela, and the paintings of his son, Spartaco.

Dante Alighieri - Vincenzo Vela

La Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Torino conserva il frammento della testa del monumento a Dante che Vincenzo Vela (1820-1891) realizza per la città di Padova (cfr. post) nel 1865.
L’espressione sconfortata del sommo poeta è stata anche interpretata come metafora della situazione politica italiana negli anni in cui si consolidava l’Unità.

The Galleria of Modern Art in Turin has the head fragment of the Dante’s monument that Vincenzo Vela has realized for Padua (see the post) in 1865.
The unsaid expression of the great Poet has also been read as a metaphor of the Italian political situation during the years in which the National Unity was consolidating.

Monumento a Daniele Manin – Vincenzo Vela

La versione torinese del monumento all’eroe dell’indipendenza veneziana è affidato a Vincenzo Vela – che per altro partecipò anche al concorso veneziano -  ed è svelato nel 1861 raccogliendo generali consensi e una riproduzione ne “L’Illustrazione Universale”.
Il gruppo presenta una Italia fiera che con la destra mostra la palma del martirio e con la sinistra sostiene un tondo a bassorilievo col ritratto di Manin.

The Turin version of the monument to the Venetian hero has been committed to Vincenzo Vela – who had also taken part to the Venetian concourse – and it has unveiled it on the 1861 in a situation of general agreement and obtaining also the graphic reproduction in the “Illustrazione Universale”.
The group presents a pride Italy that with the right hand shows the martyrdom palm and with the other bears an oval with the low relief of the Manin’s portrait.
